Post-Schengen Travel Plans
Well….we’ve changed our minds again.
Remember that annoying rule that says you’re only allowed to travel within Europe for 90 days before you have to leave again for 90 days? It’s called the Schengen Visa and it’s a real ball buster.
Initially we had planned to follow the Schengen rules, but after we realized that it seriously scratched off visiting like every country in Europe we stopped being so keen on playing it straight. As we’ve been traveling, we’ve heard countless stories of Aussies and Americans overstaying their EU welcome without consequence, and so we decided if they can do it, so can we.
The plan was Prague.

A gorgeous city that everyone can’t stop gushing over sounded like the perfect place to spend our summer. We were going to leave Barcelona at the end of May and follow this route to Prague, staying a week or so in each city along the way.

We started looking at Airbnbs and day trips from the central hub cities and fell in love with the look of Lyon. Switzerland was next and would be hella expensive but we decided we were there for the natural scenery; we could forgo the gastronomic scene for a week and live off trail mix and steamed rice.
But then we started really looking at it, and Switzerland was a huge kink in the plans. It set off a warning signal that maybe this wouldn’t be a piece of cake after all.
While Switzerland is part of Schengen, it isn’t part of the European Union and that means we’d be taken through strict passport control.
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but it’s definitely not a good time to be an illegal immigrant in the EU right now.
Sooooo….that means it’s back to playing by the rules.
(Or so I thought)
Fast forward a week and we have an entirely different story to tell you.
I mean, just look at where we’re forced to wait out our visa.

(For now) The plan is to:
>>> Leave Barcelona at the end of May (😭)
>>> Head toward Croatia via train
>>> Stay in Lyon, France for a few days
>>> Hit up a campground outside Venice
>>> Arrive to Croatia….and figure it out from there!
Any bets on how many times the plan changes over the next few weeks?? 😆
