Matuško Winery (ma-toosh-ko) was the final winery we visited on our self-made tour. Downstairs, you can freely roam their impressive cellar. Upstairs, you can partake in a full wine tasting. Our friendly host had a great time taking us from their light and easy to drink Pošip, through the full bodied and award winning Plavac Mali, and finishing off with their house-made cherry brandy and grka, or liquor made from unripe walnuts.
Your Quick Guide to Matuško
How to Get There: On your way into Orebić you will pass through the town of Potomje. You will see a left handed turn to the Dingać Tunnel. Take this turn and Matuško is a quick turn on this road. You can’t miss it!
Things to Know: Matuško is one of the biggest producers in Croatia with an average annual production of [500,000 liters]. They won silver in Bordeaux in 2015 and were the only winery invited to the event. Their lineup is impressive as is their quality. Their restaurant, Matuško Tavern, is just a quick drive through the Dingać Tunnel and offers some amazing views.
Our Favorites: I fell in love with their Dingać. Well balanced and incredibly deep, this wine embodies the essence of Dingać Plavac Mali. Even their Plavac Mali was pleasantly welcoming. I also encourage you to sample their cherry brandy!
Future Outlook: Matuško is growing and becoming ever-present in the international wine scene. They will be one of the top contenders that shows the world what Croatian wine is capable of.
