Luka Ice Cream & Cakes – Best Ice Cream in Split
If there’s one thing I love, it’s dessert. I love it all— cookies, cakes, brownies, ice cream, you name it. I must say though I am quite particular in my selection. Everything I indulge in must be scratch-made and use only real ingredients. The summer in Split is scorching hot and ice cream vendors litter the streets tempting me with their frozen wares. The color on some of their ice flavors is so vibrant and rich it almost looks unreal…and that’s exactly what it is. Full of artificial flavorings, binders, and colors, their ice cream is heavy, rich, and tastes sickeningly sweet. I had been tricked one too many times. It was time to set out to find the best ice cream in Split. Those of you who know about our carrot cake adventure know we take our quest quite seriously. I will spare you the details of the contenders this time and jump right to the only ice cream in Split worth consideration…
Meet Luka Klimczak.
As genuine as his ingredients, Luka was friendly and a wonderful person to have met. Originally from Poland, he and his family have a long history in the food and beverage industry. Luka now lives in Split and has been running his ice cream and cake shop for two years. He is even open during the winter when he focuses on more seasonally appropriate sweets like donuts and cakes.
At the young age of 32, Luka is quite the accomplished entrepreneur, but he has even bigger aspirations. He wants to bring more food options to Split that focus on fresh, fast and inexpensive. He even dreams of one day owning an organic farm where he can source all of his cream and fruits!
The ice cream is light, refreshing, and leaves your mouth feeling clean. The sorbets are icy, soft, and full of bright flavor. His shop rotates 12 different flavors of ice cream and sorbets daily and offers a wide array of baked goods ranging from muffins to carrot cake (yes!).
They also have vegan and gluten free options which is always welcoming to see. You can stick to the tried and true favorites like chocolate and vanilla, or perhaps go crazy with one of his more inventive flavors. In our short month’s stay, I have already visited his store 5 times and each time I am surprised with what he has come up with. Coconut orange, lavender, vanilla yogurt with blackberry jam, rosemary, Nutella, and on and on.
Service with a smile — who wouldn’t want to get ice cream here every day??
You can find Luka on Facebook for hours (they’re even open late night!) and directions. Next time you are in Split, make sure to stop by and let him know Tyler sent you!
